WARNING TO CUSTOMERS FROM NCB: AVOID THE RISK OF HAVING CREDIT CARD INFORMATION STOLEN AND PROPERTY MISAPPROPRIATED
The incidence of criminals obtaining customers' credit card information to conduct illicit transactions and appropriating customer assets has significantly increased in recent years. In order to safeguard the interests of customers, NCB suggests that they increase their awareness and focus on the following:
Tactics that criminals often use:
1. Posing as a bank employee to approach customers and promote the use of credit card services, including those for cash withdrawals from credit cards, assistance with credit card insurance premium payments and cashbacks, opening a fictitious credit card or another card, asking to raise the limit or the refund percentage, etc.;
2. Installing hardware devices or software solutions on ATM/POS to steal data;
3. Sending links, fake websites, QR codes leading to fake websites to steal card information when customers enter information;
4. Theft of card data by criminals at card acceptance facilities is used to make phoney cards or carry out phoney transactions.
To prevent falling prey to crooks employing these tactics and strategies, NCB RECOMMENDS customers:
1. Increase vigilance when making online transactions
- Only transact on reputable websites with security certificates (https);
- Only open the online payment function when needed and close it immediately when the transaction is completed;
- Change your password regularly when accessing e-banking services and personal email;
- Monitor balance fluctuations in your account immediately after the transaction;
- Limit use of public Wi-Fi networks when shopping and paying with credit cards.
2. Proactively protect the physical card when in use
- Cover the CVV/CVC code (3 digits on the back of the card) immediately after receiving the card;
- Do not provide or let others know the card number and expiration date;
- When using a credit card at a POS, actively swipe the card directly or pay attention when the salesperson swipes the card; carefully check the POS to ensure there are no strange devices attached to the machine before use to avoid the risk of card information being stolen.
3. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT provide Credit Card information (card number, expiration date, CVV/CVC code, OTP/smart OTP authentication code) to anyone in any form, including bank staff.
4. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT scan QR Codes, do not click on strange links received via text messages or when paying online.
5. Verify with the bank switchboard when receiving a phone call/text/email claiming to be a bank employee to instruct you to perform unclear operations/transactions on your credit card.
